Ecommerce SEO Case Study: How Takeaway Supplies Built Online Sales That Grow Every Year
When Jonathan Susca first came to TU Marketing, Takeaway Supplies was running on relationships. The business had a loyal customer base, a strong reputation in the trade, and an ecommerce website that did very little for either. This ecommerce SEO case study tells the story of what happened next. How we rebuilt the foundations, redesigned the site twice, and helped a respected UK B2B supplier grow online sales year on year, every year, since we started working together.
Who Takeaway Supplies Are
Takeaway Supplies is a UK supplier of ice cream ingredients, takeaway and catering packaging, deli supplies, and equipment. They serve everyone from sole-trader ice cream vans to chains of parlours, events caterers, deli operators, and food manufacturers. The business has also grown its own branded product range, which now sits alongside the wider catalogue on the site.
Jonathan, who runs the business, is the kind of founder we work best with. Ambitious, well-respected in his sector, and clear-eyed about where the next phase of growth needed to come from.
The Problem: Growth Capped by the Network
Takeaway Supplies had built a strong business on word of mouth and existing trade relationships. The trouble was, those relationships had a ceiling. To grow, Jonathan needed customers who had never heard of Takeaway Supplies. People searching online for the products and packaging he sold, finding his website, and trusting it enough to order.
The existing ecommerce site was not delivering that. Visually it held its own, but underneath it was a different story. The technical setup was working against organic visibility. The navigation made it harder than it needed to be for buyers to find what they came for. Product information was inconsistent. New visitor numbers were low, and the orders that did come through were almost entirely from people who already knew the business.
In short, the website looked like a shop but it was acting like a brochure.
How We Approached It
We do not start with tactics. We start by understanding what the business needs to look like commercially, then work backwards into what the website and marketing have to deliver. With Takeaway Supplies, that meant treating the work as three connected phases: fix the foundations, then redesign for growth, then evolve the site as the brand itself evolved.
The first job was making the existing website work harder. We resolved the technical issues that were holding back search performance, restructured the navigation so that buyers could find products by the categories that actually mattered to them, and improved layout, calls to action, and product imagery throughout. Alongside that, we optimised the site for the search terms Jonathan's prospective customers were already using to find suppliers like him.
The result was a steady, compounding increase in traffic from people who had never come across the business before. More importantly, those visitors started converting. Online orders began rising. The website started doing the job it had always been built to do.
- Moving to cloud-based hosting for stability and speed.
- Migrating six years of historical order and customer data onto an entirely new platform, including manually modifying database tables where the old and new system structures did not align.
- Adding a downloadable product brochure feature for trade buyers who still wanted to share physical literature.
- Building a VAT toggle so customers could view prices with or without VAT, which matters a lot in B2B purchasing.
- Adding live chat for customers who needed quick answers before placing an order.
- Reworking and resizing more than 2,000 product images so the catalogue looked and loaded the way a modern ecommerce site should.
Alongside the build, we standardised product naming and SKU formats, reformatted product descriptions for clarity and search, and reorganised categories and subcategories so the navigation reflected how customers actually buy. The new platform gave Takeaway Supplies room to scale, and the sales numbers reflected it.
More recently we delivered another full rebuild. The previous site had done its job, but Takeaway Supplies had moved on. The business now sells its own branded product range alongside the wider catalogue, and the new site reflects that maturity. A more modern look, a clearer brand presence, and dedicated space to promote the Takeaway Supplies own-brand range alongside the third-party products they distribute.
This is what good ecommerce looks like over a real business relationship. The website is not a project that gets finished and forgotten. It evolves as the business evolves.
The Results That Matter
We do not promise specific numbers up front, and we do not pretend marketing is a magic trick. What we will say is this. Takeaway Supplies’ online sales have increased every single year since we started working together. Not once has the trend gone backwards. That is the result of consistent, commercially focused work over many years. Foundations laid properly. A platform built to support real growth. And a relationship where both sides take the long view.
The Relationship Today
We still work with Takeaway Supplies. The most recent website rebuild is live and continuing to grow. We continue to support the business with ongoing SEO and ecommerce optimisation, with the same goal we started with. Making sure new customers who have never heard of Takeaway Supplies can find them, trust them, and order from them.
We love working with Jonathan and the team. Their ambition is genuine, their standards are high, and we expect to be working with them for a long time yet.

frequently asked question?
How long did it take to see results?
The first phase of work delivered steady, compounding growth from the start. Larger gains followed each website rebuild, because the new platforms gave us more to work with. Ecommerce SEO is a long game, but the trend has been upward every year of our relationship with Takeaway Supplies.
What services do you provide to Takeaway Supplies today?
Ongoing SEO, ecommerce optimisation, and continued support and development of the website. As the business evolves, the site evolves alongside it.
Do you only work with ice cream and catering suppliers?
No. We work across B2B, with a particular focus on founder-led businesses turning over between £1M and £10M. Takeaway Supplies is a good example of what we do well. Ambitious, well-run businesses that have outgrown their existing online presence and want a partner who will take the long view with them.
Could you do the same for our ecommerce site?
Probably, if you are in a similar position. The starting point is always a proper look at what is and is not working today. Our free audit is the best way to find out.
